The Jasmine Alliance is a grassroots initiative dedicated to uniting the Syrian community in Canada and amplifying its political, social, and media presence.

As Syrian Canadians, we recognize our responsibility to contribute, in any way we can, to the revival of our homeland. Historically, immigrant communities have played a crucial role in supporting their countries of origin—politically, socially, and in the media. Achieving this goal requires a unified message and a strong, representative voice.

Key Demands

Our Core Principles

(1) A Responsibility, Not a Privilege

Representation is a duty, not an honorary title. Those chosen to represent the community must fully understand the weight of their responsibility. No individual should use this initiative for personal gain—financial or otherwise.

(2) A Unified Voice, Not Authority Over Groups

The alliance seeks to establish a collective voice for the community but does not impose authority over any group’s activities, structure, or independence. Each group remains free to continue its work as usual.

(3) Merit-Based Representation

Representatives addressing officials and advocating for the community are selected based on their competence and expertise, not status, wealth, favoritism, or political interests.

(4) Consensus and Consultation

Decision-making is based on consultation and broad agreement. No single entity should dominate decisions, nor should divisions or power struggles hinder progress.

Key Demands of The Jasmine Alliance

Lifting Unjust Sanctions

We call for the immediate removal of sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, which were inherited from the former regime and should no longer apply following its fall. Delaying their removal only prolongs instability in Syria and the region.

Respecting the Syrian People’s Will

The Syrian people must have the right to determine their own governance, political structure, and national policies without external interference. The international community must respect their choices, acknowledge their sacrifices, and refrain from imposing external mandates.

Providing Genuine Support for Syria’s Reconstruction

We urge international efforts to assist Syria’s recovery through development programs, financial aid, and technical expertise, in proportion to the country’s needs and comparable to the support extended to other nations.

The Jasmine Alliance is committed to building a unified, empowered Syrian community in Canada, ensuring its voice is heard, and advocating for the rightful support Syria deserves.

Our Structure

The Jasmine Alliance is focused solely on advocacy and representation. Our organizational structure ensures collective decision-making and prioritizes the community’s and Syria’s best interests.

• Each major Canadian city or region with at least 5,000 Syrians selects a representative.

• Representatives must be knowledgeable, dedicated to Syria’s revival, and committed to the community’s values.

• Cities determine their selection process independently but can consult with others for guidance.

• The board elects a chairperson to serve as a mediator in case of disputes. The chairperson is not necessarily a spokesperson.

• Monthly meetings are held, with emergency meetings as needed.

• Representatives must attend at least ten regular meetings annually and 80% of emergency meetings.

• Representatives serve one-year terms, with no limit on reappointments.

• Each province selects its spokesperson, and a national spokesperson team is appointed by the Board of Trustees.

• Spokespersons are chosen based on competence rather than location in political hubs.

• Essential qualifications include:

- Professional-level fluency in English (and French in Quebec).

- Deep understanding of Canadian culture and communication norms.

- Strong public speaking, networking, and advocacy skills.

• Official statements and positions are formulated through consultation and approved by the Board of Trustees.

• No spokesperson or board member may issue statements without prior approval.

• The Board of Trustees monitors spokespersons’ performance and provides support to ensure their effectiveness.
